Repeating myself ... please read marksdailyapple.com , sign up for the daily updates. Read the 'getting started' pages.
TL,DR version - stop eating anything with grain in it. Eat more meat, and more vegetables. Don't try to do more exercise, unless it's something you enjoy. The way you lose weight is by changing what you eat - exercise is for building muscles, and you have enough of those to be going on with.

I feel your pain brother. I've been there many many times in the past and as recently as a month ago.

What I'd say is this. Don't put a number value on weight loss before a holiday. It only gives you a number to fail against and you'll enter your holiday on a downer. Instead, have a target like "feel better/weigh less than now" or even "at least not heavier than now" and be happy with that. Wishy washy I know but now is not the time for big targets. Use the hols as a time to replenish your energy and enter post-holiday period with verve to hit targets.
But really don't enter your holiday hitting yourself with a big stick. No one benefits.

Good luck fella.

Hi Iain - i tweeted you but thought i'd add thoughts here.

1. I recently got a rowing machine (6 wks) - what i do if find some good streaming videos, and get on the rowing machine for 20 to 60 mins every single day. Go at it 100% .. gets easier to maintain after 2 weeks of trying. You will notice results very quickly if you work hard on it.

2. I know for a fact that this works http://www.juicemaster.com/7lbs-in-7-days-super-juice-diet.html - you could do one week on, one week off - 3 times before you go (more if you can maintain it). This is actually easier to do that #1 above!

Good luck!
