Gary Ralston – The Incredible Disappearing Man

Gary Ralston is a lad I work with at the Daily Record.

He is a multi-award winning sports writer and all-round good guy.

He was also a bit lardy.

I say was not because Gary has pegged it or anything, but because he has lost more weight in a few months than I thought was humanly possible.

He started at more than 21 stone (he cannot be sure but in the second week in January he was weighing in at 20 stone 11lb – the same as my starting weight) and this morning he tipped the scales at 16 stone 13lb. That’s more than four stone in four months.

At his rate he will have disappeared by August 2012.

He’s done it simply by watching his intake and getting mad with the workouts and running.

People in the office do double takes when they see him, he is the subject of much water-cooler conversation, and indeed admiration.

The photo above was cadged off his Facebook page and was taken at the beginning of the process. When I get a chance I will ask him if i can take another photo on my iPhone and post that too. You will be stunned.

I watched him step on the scales today and he actually looked healthy. Proper healthy. That is some transformation for a bloke who was 21 stones just a few weeks ago.

Some gurus would say losing that amount of weight in that time is unhealthy. That’s rubbish. He was 21 stone, a walking heart attack. What is unhealthy is sitting around on your arse doing nothing about it. He has grasped the nettle and got down to it.

And he’d tell you himself, while he may not have the love handles anymore he still has some work to do to tone up those moobs.

He is also a real motivator to other folk using my works gym.

So Gary, keep it up mate, you are an utter inspiration to the waverers like me.
