So the ferry is booked then for the Hebridean Celtic Festival when Shaun and I will be tripping the light fantastic in my home town of Stornoway.
We’re taking the bikes with us too so I think we’ll do our level best to get a bit of cycling in while we’re there.
I can’t tell you how much I’m looking forward to going home for a few days, and showing Shaunie some of the best scenery in the country for the first time.
The whole trip should be a blast, I am looking forward to the music and the dancing (you can read the full line up here) but I’m also looking forward to hooking up with friends and showing off my island to a newcomer. If the weather is favourable I know Shaun will be blown away.
The journey getting there is going to be almost as important.
I would usually drive up to Ullapool and then go directly across to Stornoway, but the cross-country drive across Scotland on the A84/A85, then the A82, then over Skye and up through Harris and Lewis is just breathtaking.
And Shaun has let slip that he’s never been up my neck of the woods, so it seems only fair that The Two Fat Laddies do it in style.
I remember doing the same drive once after the Baptism up in Lewis of our daughter. It was Scotland at its best; I think probably the best drive I ever enjoyed – the majesty of Loch Seaforth, The Cuillins, Glencoe, Glen Shiel, Loch Linnhe, all there.
If we get even half that weather I’d be happy. I might even let Shaun create a playlist for the trip.
Stroll on, cove. As we say in Stornoway.
