Mister Motivator. Is that the missing link?

I think it’s psychological. It must be. Every time I pay to join a gym I go once or twice then drift away.

Over the years this has included Greens, Esporta, LivingWell, LA Fitness and a few council run ones for good measure.

And now Virgin Active.

Since ponying up my cash and joining I think I’ve been three times to my ‘home’ club near the office in Edinburgh.

It took me until Friday to even discover where the Glasgow venue was, far less go in.

Even that was by accident.

I hate to think to think of the cash that’s been squandered and can only imagine that I’m not alone.

No wonder that it’s big business.

My preference is actually outdoors anyway. But as my last post alludes, that’s also fallen off the radar recently.

So the next trick will be coming up with a new schedule that will combine both and make it a certainly that I get at least some workouts in.

I think a conversation with Iain is in order. Might be getting back to basics is just what we need.

When we started this whole adventure I always found it harder not to go to the gym when I knew he was.

Maybe it was that competitive streak in us? Maybe it was the not wanting to let the other down?

Or possibly even the banter, of which there has been much.

Whatever it was the various books I’ve been reading suggest a trainer or training partner is the best motivator.

Maybe that’s a question for fitness gurus out there may have an opinion on.
